Meet Susan, a hardworking and dedicated single mother whose life became increasingly challenging after her husband passed away, leaving her to raise five children without any support from his side of the family. Confidently, she engaged in casual labor while blending it with an arrowroot business. Through her arrowroot venture, Susan discovered her strength and honed her negotiation skills. The business operates twice a week on the market.
Despite her determination, Susan struggled to scale up her business due to limited capital. Recognizing her potential, the project supported her with KES 10,000 as initial capital to boost her purchasing power. Susan excitedly shares, “After the project gave me the 10,000/-, I invested it into my arrowroot business. Now I’m able to save KES 600 weekly with other women in the market, with whom we have formed an association. I’ve also bought a dairy goat from these proceeds and taken it to my mother’s place in Nyeri, as I currently live in rented accommodation. Additionally, I’ve managed to do maize farming at home, which has been a struggle for me. Now I am assured that next year we will have enough food for ourselves.”
Susan dreams of expanding her business and becoming a well-known businesswoman selling arrowroots in town. Isn’t it inspiring?
